The BAHEC facilitates a Interdisciplinary Health Education Committee (IHEC) with members representing diverse health discipline. IHEC members may be any interested health professionals, nominated by a local health professional organizational group and/or AHEC Board Member. Recently the IHEC has been helping to conduct interdisciplinary training on the opioid overdose epidemic. BAHEC is an certified Overdose Response Program with the Maryland Department of Health. To date BAHEC has helped dispense over 80 prescriptions of the life saving drug Narcan to health professional students at University of Maryland Baltimore as part of an inter professional (IPE) Overdose Response Trainings.
Over the 2017-2018 Academic BAHEC is planning for a new AHEC Scholar Program. The AHEC Scholar Program, implemented nationwide at over 300 AHEC Centers, will begin in the Fall of 2018 and be interdisciplinary training program and include clinical and didactic community based training activities for MD, PA, and NP students at University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). We hope to train these health professional students in partnership with CHW BAHEC Alumni in the field. Look for more information in the future!
Training is limited to 10 students from each UMB Professional School. The upcoming April 7, 2018 event will take place on a Saturday at the Student Campus Center Room 349 from 930am-1130am. Please have available your insurance information when you register at above link. If you choose to voluntarily obtain Narcan the day of the event you must submit this information. Co-pays will be covered by the UMB Center for Interprofessional Education that is sponsoring the event.
