To eliminate health disparities by educating and strengthening the health care workforce. BAHEC provides interdisciplinary educational programs that bridge academic, healthcare, and community settings to transform the health of underserved Baltimore City and County.
Welcome to the Baltimore AHEC Website!
The Baltimore AHEC (BAHEC) serves both Baltimore City and County. Founded in 2003, our vision is to lead the transformation of a diverse healthcare workforce that recognized and meets the needs of the community of Baltimore. This is accomplished through a series of formal educational partnerships, stakeholders’ partnerships and linkages, and clinical interdisciplinary education. Similar to the community health workers (CHW) we train we aim to link the community with the healthcare and academic settings.
BAHEC is one of three AHECs located in Maryland under the Maryland Area Health Education Program at the University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) School of Medicine (SOM). The AHECs are federally funded through the Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) national network that focuses on recruitment, training and retention of a diverse health workforce for underserved communities.
